When life is a challenge – what do you do? When s***t happens – how do you react?
Life has many ways of testing a person’s will, either by having nothing happen at all or by having everything happening all at once. Paulo Coehlo
Here in the British Isles, many are recovering from everything that has been happening at once! How do we deal with it?
We have been battered by storms – pummelled by weather systems called Dudley, Eunice and Franklin which gathered their strength over the Atlantic ocean and raged through the country leaving many people without power, water and even their roofs. Stephen and I have had some technical challenges of our own – computers crashing, internet freezing and trees crashing down on my 95 year old mother’s garden shed 300 miles away! Thankfully she is safe and so are we.
If there’s one thing you can be sure of about life, it’s that we’ve each experienced one or more major life challenges and lived to tell others about it. We are, in essence, all recovering from something. The question is, how do you deal with it?
As Billy Ocean sang so memorably: “when the going get’s tough, the tough get going”! You can listen here, and catch that positive energy!
Stuff happens – no matter how perfect life seems to be. Problems turn up, crash into us – and they aren’t going anywhere unless you face them and solve them. My mother’s mantra is “get on with it” – no point worrying. She goes into action to work out a solution – and still does! She says sorting stuff out help keeps her alive!
We mused a little about how we deal with tough stuff on our last show – you can listen here:
Mentors Music and Musings – about panic, being lost, finding community – and Walt Disney
Simply getting on with our life, we meet and turn up barriers and issues that might stop us in our tracks, and distract us from our path. Sometimes we feel we don’t have what we need to deal with the issues. So do we ignore it, deny it, or face it?
When we know what we are dealing with we can always find resources, tools and support to help us move forward. Facing the challenges of life – of making a change, making a living or making difference – start by looking inside for that inner strength, the person who is you. Listen to your heart, draw on your experience, think it through and resolve to do whatever needs to be done.
Once you have a clear perspective of what problems you have in your life, you can deal with them and move forward, step by step, from where you are to where you want to be.
